Default Mass Effect crashes at system configuration screen

So, as the title states, when I launch the game (just purchased) and click "Configure" It starts analyzing my system for about 2 seconds, and then pops up the window that it has stopped functioning and needs to be shutdown.

Figuring I could alleviate that and just adjust the settings in game, I clicked play, it pulls up the configuration screen again, and does the same exact thing.

Anyone have a similar problem? Is there a solution that I'm not thinking of?

Thanks in advance!

Easy solution to all your problems is to be honest and buy the game when it gets released tomorrow.

Oops, my apologies to you Sir, I got carried away after seeing so many threads of this nature but involving ME2.
