There are 2 versions, the original 5 disc with full-size box/jewel case and then the 'updated' EA Games version with insert and 5 dics. The 'updated' version is easy enough to come by online, either by ebay or otherwise, but the original is what really fetches a pretty penny.

say, do these final fantazy games follow the same storyline or are they all independant. I always wanted to play them starting from the begining but if they have nothing to do with eachother, whats the point?

if they do follow, say 2 follows 1, please give me the sequence,
if they dont follow which are the best ones to play (challenging, story, equipment, npc, combat system)

different, start off with FF7 i would say after you complete the game watch Final Fantasy Advent Children, then skip FF8 because that wasnt good, and move onto FF9 i would say.

I agree somewhat, but it seems that more people like FF8 than dislike it. So I don't know if I would recommend skipping it altogether.

Nevaziah, the only reason to play the FF games in order is because the technology got better each time around. If you start with FF9 and then go back to FF7, FF7 is going to look somewhat primitive because of the blocky character models.

The graphics on the PC version of FF7 are potentially better. The highest resolution unpatched is 640x480.

Unpatched it will not run with Direct 3D. You have to find the patch so that you can run it with Direct 3D. There is also a patch that forces the game to run at 1024x768 which makes the game look exquisite. The patches are unofficial and could cause stability issues with the game. I've had a few crashes while running it but mainly becuase I would alt+tab out of the game to look up something real quick. If I refrain from alt+tabbing then it runs fine for hours.

When I get home I can find the links to the patches.

I also saw some mentions of being able to update the character models...but I'm not sure if there's any substance to that.

dunno, people have been hooked onto FF7 for years all the other games not many people have had a care for to be honest. the PS2 releases have been good along with final fantasy online which i am still yet to play, but people always agree FF7 is a superb game for the time and still today, the thing i usually say is "Graphics Aint Everything"

Look for post #22

Direct 3d patch (or the 1.02 patch)

Allows you to run ff7 with direct 3d acceleration.
