....I want to make the absolute final, no questions-need-to-be-asked guide on insulation- So others can learn
![]() 1. What is that black coating people tend to use? 2. I need some form of coating that is able to be "peeled" off if need be, for instance an RMA. I think that black stuff might do the trick. 3. Vaseline- Where and when to use it, and on what components 4. Insulation- What type, how big, thick, and where can I buy it? I heard the Arctic Web's setup isn't all that great. After getting all these answers and more suggestions, I will write up a guide to be published here, on Overclock.net for all those n00bs who wanted to know but were afraid to ask ![]() Thanks guys ![]()

The black stuff is " Star Brite" liquid electrical tape....I've never peeled it off pcb's but people have told me that it will...Black silicone RTV sealent will peel also...

Excellent, I will be picking that up at HD. And it insulates well, I am guessing? Neat.

Oh yeah works well. The RTV sealent is made by Permatex, I like the red it is high temp, but some also use the black...They both should insulate well...There is a link here where a guy used clear Star - Brite let me see if I can find it for you...LINK>>>Dry ice- 1st time - Overclock.net - Overclocking.net

Ok maybe you can use some of this...
Spray conformal..... Tech Spray 2104-12S: Techspray Conformal Coating, Urethane, 12-oz. Aerosol, Note: Regulated Material - Non-Hazardous When Shipped Ground Service Love this red conformal...Red-X Corona Dope Conformal Coating 2 Oz.: CrazyPC Computers Dow Corning conformal....Danger Den :: Peltiers/PSU/Insulation :: Insulation Parts :: Conformal Coating Diff thicknes Neoprene... Danger Den :: Peltiers/PSU/Insulation :: Insulation Parts :: Conformal Coating Individual di-electric grease...Danger Den :: Peltiers/PSU/Insulation :: Insulation Parts :: Dielectric Grease Compound Permatex makes the red high temp RTV sealent and the black RTV sealent..I would use the red personaly... And the link where a guy was using clear Star-Brite, I asked and he said it was easy to peel off...Dry ice- 1st time - Overclock.net - Overclocking.net

I usually just use neoprene and vaseline (dielectric grease). Fill the socket with grease, and coat each layer (where two layers of neoprene overlap) with grease to keep air from getting between the different layers. It's really pretty simple.

Neat- I think that is the route I will take, coating the board with the liquid electrical tape, then using vaseline on top, and between layers.

I'm going crazy with mine and doing conformal, sealstring, neoprene and die-electric grease. Overboard? prob, but I can sleep well.

Same here- I think I will go in the following MSPaint layout.
Basically, going from the motherboard-up: 1. Liquid Electrical Tape, covering everything on the physical board. 2. Vaseline, providing a vapor barrier and a small amount of adhesive property. 3. Neoprene, Hopefully at least 3/8" thick.

That's exactly how I have mine (less the liquid electrical tape).
