so in my old build i have a 3.06 northwood and just with the stock NTO6 and the 120mm fan on high i get an idle of 36c and a load of something around 45. i dont use that system anymore so had a few peltiers laying around (40mm x 40mm x 3.5mm) so i put one. everythings ran off a old 430 watt enermax psu. the peltier was ran at 12 and the fan was at max, no idea what ambient temp is right now but i got 24-26c on the heat pipes, and -23 on the coldside. condensation was fun. anyways, no idea how cold it will really get when i hook it up to the system. but im going to try it anyways. if i get a better result then ill keep it in. my peltiers are 80 qmax, cant really move that much heat, so is it worth it? and is condensation every going to be a problem with this set up?
__________________im not sure how accurate my temp reader is btw. i got the idle and load temps with core temp, and got the temps of the nto6 + pelt with my temp gun so im not sure how cold this thing is actually gettingheres some pics, and the plate that ill be fabbing in a few days ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() i just got some generic thermal paste between the peltier and the coldblock then i just clamped it down with the back plate of the nto6. it was fun to see so anyways heres the block ![]() if anything it was a good laugh for us both ![]() enjoy

I sure hope you won't doing this on your QX6850!
A Qmax of 80w means that it can transfer only 80w at most and that is under ideal conditions. A quadcore would overheat so fast since the TEC will be insulating at 50-180w.

Even those have ~63W TDP at stock speed/volts. If you overclock it I bet you will reach about 80W or so. I guess it's worth a shot, just be careful.
The TEC/heatsink setup looks great!

The cold block maybe should be the thicker to improve performance. It allows the heat from the center of the IHS to spread over the entire TEC.

Quote:
Watts to Celcius? No direct formula since you need other variables for conversion. Watts is a measure of energy per second while temperature is a measure of average evergy of particles. However, this maybe help: http://www.overclock.net/peltiers-te...alculator.html

TDP means Thermal Design Power. It is the wattage the CPU will output at a certain voltage and speed.
Watts is power and Celsius is temperature. They are completely different, the only way to figure out a conversion is by testing your setup. It's very complicated.

If you are a machinist, or have access to a mill, you should check out the watercooling section, there are a few people designing waterblocks and things and I think you would fit right in.
