Default d-tek fuzion + peltier

has anyone tried using a peltier block with a fuzion water block? can the fuzion handle the high temps from the peltier?

also, how big of a peltier would you recommend that i run for a q6600/qx9650(future) if i overclock to around 4.0ghz

Well how big is the flat part of the coolers base .. if it's less than 62mm then dont bother as you wont beable to fit a 437watt tec to it... this is of course assuming your not going to mod the water block much . dont for get you'll need a cold plate too.

you dont need a TEC to get the 9450 at 4.0. it does that on air.

I think the fuzion base is around 50mm square (I must get one for myself soon). With some modification you may be able to get a 62mm peltier on it but it wont be cooled as well as if the block was designed to cool 62mm in the first place.

hmm would a 226watt peltier be sufficient? though.. with the power supply calc, it says a q6600 @ 1.5vcore/4.0 will consume 250+ watts - will it output that much as well?

I think you'd need the one bigger 3 something? I know the 437 would be ideal

I think you'd be better off with a large V8P Stinger since those are great and have room for pelts

A 226w TEC would be vastly ineffective on a 250w load. Using one will increase your CPU temperature well over 100C. For a 250w load, you need a 400w+ TEC for any real drop in temperature

I imagine that with that stated max power consumption of 250w you are likely to end up with no more than 200w of actual heat under normal load conditions. Either way its going to be tough for a single peltier to cope with (hence why im slowly designing a 10 peltier chiller to deal with loads up to 200w).

i think TEC chillers are the only practical way of cooling a 200Watt+ load. One TEC even a 437watt one can hardly do the job. A TEC running at high wattage is simply to inefficient and trying to get ultra low hot side C/Ws is VERY difficult over such a small area.
Which is why chillers are the go. Your not limited by size so you can make a massive cooler with thousands of potential cooling watts. Then run it at a very low wattage moving far more watts of heat than a single 437 watt TEC could ever do, while at the same time using less electricity. Also due to the coolers large size it makes achieving ultra low C/W very realistic.

There are down sides to chillers though.

like price, size, manufacturability, etc.
