...this doesn't sound like the beginning of a good idea.....

4-pin Molex pinouts are: +12v, GND, GND, +5v

You can run it at +12v, +7v, or +5v.

Could you elaborate on why it might not be a good idea to use the 4-pin connector? I have a 750 watt psu. Shouldn't that be enough juice? Granted, i'm not too familiar with how or if a 4 pin connecter can power a 226-245wat pelt. Are you suggesting I should use a seperate psu?

How many volts does a TEC use though?

you will have to much current running through the line, its very hard on the wires and psu. i would only do that if the pelt is below 130w

What are the specs on the TEC? TEC performance is dependent on voltage. Also, how are you cooling the hotside? It will burn out in a few seconds if not properly cooled. For that load, you will need watercooling or great aircooling to run it for any length of time.

What is your PSU rail layout? A 245w TEC can consume well over 300w. 25A may cause your PSU to shutdown. Also, you need to worry about if your wiring it enough to handle the current.

This is my psu:
Thermaltake Toughpower 750w. It has "Four +12V rails(12V1,12V2,12V3,12V4) ... (combined loading of 56A)." Ugh looks like I'll need an auxuillary psu

I'm changing my out of the box Gigabyte water cooling to a custom one using the following parts ordered today:
Swiftech Apogee GT Extreme Performance Universal CPU Waterblock (only decent one i could find for am2. Phenom here I come )
50x50mm Copper Cold Plate
245W Potted Peltier

I'm gonna run the pelt with my current water pump and rad initially then upgrade to swiftech pump and triple 120mm rad.

TEC specs:
Maximum operating temp: 125 C
Imax: 24 Amps
Qmax: 245.1 Watts
Vmax: 15.2 Volts
Delta Tmax: >67 (C)
Size: 50mm X 50mm X 3.10mm

yea if you had a solid one rail design PSU say the OP650 like mine you would have a better chance at pulling it off...newegg says OP650 has 54A on the 12V rail mmm maybe I dont understand whats going on ...dar dar on myself

Nope.

For TEC, you need adjustable-voltage PSUs. You have to balance the how much energy the TEC is moving with how much additional energy the TEC is using. Running a TEC at 100% can yield worse temps than at like 70%.

yea I pretty much realized what I was saying was dumb right after I posted it, but that is good info on adjustable voltage
