Default A couple of noob questions.

I am still new to the world of TEC's do forgive my nubcake questions.

1. Will a 226w cool a q6600 if i overclock it to say 3.5ghz? If so what kind of temps can i expect???

2. If not where can i purchase a more powerful unit?

3. Where can i purchase insulation?

You can get some of the good stuff from Home Depot as far as insulation goes. Unless you are talking about insulation that you want to stick on the inside of your PC.

A 226w TEC would not cool an overclocked Q6600. The Q6600 will be pushing out around 180-200w of heat. The TEC would be effective at really cooling like 120w or so. The Q6600 would overheat and shutdown.

eBay seems to be the best place to purchase. However, how did you plan to cool the TEC? The biggest 50x50mm ones are only around 245w. Anthing bigger and you need special waterblocks that can fit a 62x62mm TEC. Oh, don't expect to cool a TEC on air.

Why can't a TEC be cooled by air? I am new to all cooling but air and I was starting to wonder if my TT120 could keep a TEC cool enough. Can someone explain this to us as I am sure I am not the only one that would like to know.

you can get 437watt tec's from frozencpu.com

You can't air cool a single high wattage TEC because air coolers aren't designed to cool the CPU and the added load of the TEC.

yer kinda right, but not exactly. A normal CPU Heatsink can't remove the heat fast enough, and therefore, it will overheat really quickly.

Sounds like the samething to me

The tec you posted is an excellent example of this
Pmax
This technically isn’t an official variable of a TEC. This rating is simply Umax multiplied by Imax. A lot of people on E-bay are selling their TEC based on this rating instead of Qmax the purposes of doing so is to inflate the apparent power of a TEC.
