lol yeah, but I don't think I'm gonna see that temp until february now. Still waiting on both newegg and paypal for the refunds, then by the time they get here I'm gonna be busy with finals and then off on vacation. So I think I'm just gonna hold off until feb on those, and just concentrate on the laptop and server for now.

As for the laptop, I'm about to take it apart completely and see if I can figure out exactly what it was that burnt....maybe I'll get lucky with a multimeter.

ahh well good luck with the laptop then and I always tell everyone to remember that everything happens for a reason... you didnt get it done now but youll be rewarded more fruitfully later because you kept trying

That's the truth! But unfortunately it looks like I'm not out of the dirt yet...

The pen got here today so I went ahead and attempted that CPU mod for the ASUS:

And of course, it didn't work.

But oh well, it was fun for the 5 mins it lasted!

Nope, it just kept restarting over and over every 3 seconds or so. Nothing at all.

You used the Intel pin out guide to didn't you, it should be right.

Do you have a re-set button on your mobo? I had one do that once and a cable was on the re-set button holding it down. I've had flakey PSU's and ram do it to.

Yup, I'm 100% sure all those pins are Vss. I quadruple checked it, because the last thing I needed to do was ruin this CPU as well!

Just tried removing the reset button, using 1 stick of RAM at a time, and using a different PSU. Nothing

But there's some good news - I finally got the refund back from newegg for the BlackOps. I'm gonna see what kind of motherboard I can get for this server for cheap now, and hold off on the main rig until I find out what's happening with the money from the CPU.
