Thx I think I'm just gotta take apart the S-Flex's I've got...pretty expensive fans, but at the end of the day at least I won't have to spend more. Not like I'm ever gonna use them again anyway, this thing sounds like an airplane!

Lookin nice! Great temps for 3.8ghz.. I can only see those on load, if I keep my side door open in the house.. [drops ambients in meh cpu room to ~60c ] ..and thats at 3.6ghz.

I would think you would be getting lower idle temps than ~25c though..am I crazy?

Yup, going to home depot tomorrow, gonna pick up some 10ga wires for both the Outlet->PSU cable and the PSU->TEC cables.

The dual 18ga wires still got extremely hot (but I could at least touch them this time, heh). But the good news is that the temps dropped, and now Core 1 and 2 bounce between 21 and 22 degress, and Core4 stays around 15 . So maybe with the thicker cables it will just stay colder than the sensors can read, period.

Awesome I'm watching your thread closely, it a kickass build! And yup you'll get great temps soon too, just make sure you get thicker wires than I did lol.

I'll start installing this in its case tomorrow after I get the other wires and try it out. The 8GB ram got here as well, so that's gonna be fun . After all that's done though, It'll be a long way to 4.8GHz....

By the way, is there any way to like....double up on TECs? Or would I just have to try and get a more powerful one? I dunno, it just doesn't seem like the pelt is taxing the WC system its hooked up to, I figure there's room for some more

I hope it drops them a lot....You can always go into bios and sit for a while and see what your idle will drop to..SpeedFan is the only one I can get to read sub-zero on this mobo, with some Core-Temp will read sub-zero to...Just sit around in bios and see what it drops to in 5 minutes or so, then compare it to whatever temp program you can get to read on desk top, its not perfect but it will give you a pretty god idea of what they are..It drives me nuts not to know my temp's, I hate that with a purple passion.....But anyway at least you can read your load temp's correctly, thats the main thing...

Glad you got it going fairly painlessly and its doing well for you, its just like WC'ing it will settle in over the next few days and burn in and your temp's will drop a little more...

EDIT: Doubling up or stacking Pelts is called a TEC cascade and they don't work very well, your temp's are going to drop some more, they should, the best way to drop your temp's now would to be to try some remounts, maybe, or some other optimization of your WC'ing loop..But I'd give it a few days to settle in first then go from there...

what voltage are you running your cpu at at 3.8g and are you running your PSU at 21 volts ? tested with a volt meter when fully loaded ?

Yup of course I'll give it some time and see how far the OC goes. I mean if I can hit something like 4.8 with this setup then of course there's no need to go any further. But if its stuck at something dumb like 4.2 or 4.3 where I could have just done plain WCing and gotten the same result, then that means it's time to add some TEC power to it!

1.4 on the CPU (I just kept the same OC as when I did it on air), and nope I don't have a multimeter to test the PSU. I just turned the voltage dial on it all the way up .

I'd back that PSU down as low as it will go and try it there to, your pumping out a whole lot of heat if thats at 26volts, it might cool a little better at the lowest setting, or somewhere in between...Something to play with anyway.....

But more importantly are you over 4Ghz yet? You should easily be able to hit 300 or 400Mhz more with your TEC then on plain water, or more if you have a good chip..

Ok I'll pick up a multimeter at home depot tomorrow when I go to get the wires to get some exact figures.

And nope, I haven't tried going any higher yet, I'll do that tomorrow too

I am getting a slight problem though. When I do a cold boot, the motherboard can't get the CPU to OC'd settings. It restarts itself (turns completely off and back on), gives me an error, and sends me to BIOS - where I just have to hit "save settings" and then boots OCd no problem. And its completely stable with that Linpack test. Would that have anything to do with the TEC?

I have to tap into bios with a cold boot and let it set there for a minute or two to cool down enough to boot my OC, it takes it a minute or so to pull your temp's down enough, it gets worse the more v-core you pump into it...

Hey what is your idle in bios? Have you checked it there yet?

Ah ok.

And my bios doesn't have any temp info, unfortunately

I'm gonna have to pick up one of those sensor wires and LCD displays and stick it on the CPU itself i think.
