Default 100W TEC for my ChilTec

Hello everyone. You might also know who I am with the other thread trying to place 2 50W TECs right next to each other on one of my other Ultra ChilTec coolers. Well I just got my 100w TEC in the mail today and I dressed it up with Gold Plated ends and Carbon sleeves. This will go on my other ChilTec. I also bought some Dielectric Grease just in case. Here are some pictures of my new TEC.

Thanks
Ross

It will be interesting to see the results.

Sadly though I don't think the TEC will help much; and might end up hurting temps.

What are the TEC spec's and do you have a separate PSU to power it with?

Judging from the gold molex pins I would say he's intending to use a computer PSU. If it's a 100w Qmax that would be a bad idea, and I mean bad as in potential fire hazard. If it's a 100 Pmax then it's still not a smart idea but probably still safe. Also note that you may get worse temps because the TEC produces its own heat plus that heat that it's displacing from the CPU.

WOW, That's amazing how people just don't support anyone anymore. Always negativity in these forums. Samething on EVGA forum. I modded my Chiltec to prove to people that the ChilTec is a great cooler and only 3 people out of 50 posted a good and supportive reply. All the others wanted me to show load temps or they where knocking the mod. When I posted my load temps with my little ChilTec with a 50w TEC getting a straight 12v from my PSU the highest temp was 45C with Prime95 small FTTs for 15minutes. I would think that's awesome on a Q9400@3.6 1.35V. About 20 people wanted me to prove my load temps and guess what, right after I posted my load temps from P95 not one person from those 20 replied at all. So I guess those people couldn't say anything nice about it because all they wanted to say was that it wouldn't work or even cool better the a Cooler Master V10.

Now to ask the person that says this is a bad idea to use a 100w TEC on my PSU. Why is it OK to use my 50w TEC off of my PSU with no problems? I could see that it would be a bad idea at stock form. But not with 2 92mm fans that spin @4000rpms 70cfm and another 92mm fan blowing ambient cold temp that spins at 4800rpms 110cfm. So why is this a bad idea? I have a 850w Corsair. I also have the Zalman Fan controller that displays how much power I am using and all I am using is a little over 300w. So I have a lot more power available to use.

This is the link for the TEC: http://www.shop.customthermoelectric...2&productId=22

Cooling Specifications:

Qmax 100.1 watts

Imax 12.0 amps

Vmax 16.5 volts

DTmax 68°C

Tmax 125°C

Dimensions: mm (inches)
A 40 (1.57)

B 40 (1.57)

C 40 (1.57)

H 3.8 (.150)

Thanks
Ross

Ok the reason it's a possible fire hazard is that Molex connectors are rated for a max of 8ish amps you are going to be putting very close to that if not more. Computer PSU's are not intended to deliver high currents that's why video cards that consume large amounts of energy require two connectors so that they can split the current across parallel connections. I have nothing against what you are doing but safety should always come first.

Ok thanks for the info. Can I use 2 power plugs from the PSU? Like splice them together from 2 different rails? Right now I am using a 50w TEC off of a PSU plug, just like I am about to do with the new one. Well if anything only 8ish amps would run through it right?

http://www.customthermoelectric.com/...Q_spec_sht.pdf

it will draw 9.5 amps at 12 volts.

I read in the specs of the coolermaster V10 the TEC i draws some like 9.9 amp

you could try running it off a lower voltage like 7 volts. Amp draw would be about 5.6 amps maybe somewhere around there.
I think you'd only get like 6 more watts of cooling though :/

I my self would like to start a Tec cooler computer but I only going to be putting it on a sempron Le 1150.
I'm looking at the same place this one was bought they just brought a few new tecs like a 225 watt 24 volts 15 amps and a few others. I really want to air cool the tec since the cpu is so low power. (CPU is 45 watts)

What gauge wires are on your TEC tails? I'd use at least 14 gauge.

There is a guide here in the stickies for making a dedicated TEC PSU out of a old ATX PSU, just get a cheap one with 25 amp's or so on the 12 vdc rail, you might want to use it on a bigger TEC later on and you can get the 25amp ones fairly cheap.

Set a fairly low shut down temp in bois before you try this, that way you'll just shut down instead of cooking your chip if its running to hot.

Honestly if you want to run TEC I'd just set up a WC'ing loop for it, but thats up to you. You have the TEC heat plus the chip heat and with-out a HSF the size of New Jersey its hard to keep it cooled properly.

If you like playing around with stuff get a $99 5000BTU window AC and make a slush-box chiller and you could cool your chip and whole mobo to below 0C with it. You can set up a super cheap WC'ing loop with a chiller.
