Default Simple Question

I have a Peltier/TEC from one of those 12V Coleman Fridge/chest things. Could I flatten and lap the cold side, and modify it to mount to my CPU?
If so, would it work better than the stock Intel cooler on my P4?
And lastly, would I need to insulate?

I have often thought of the same idea. It makes all the sense in the world. Yes you would have to mod your own case for the fridge unit. I wonder if you would need a condenser. for the refrigerant to cool again. but it seems that you could make it work. Yes you would need to insulate the copper tube.

ummmmm, there is no refrigerant, or a condensor, or a copper tube. It is a Thermalelectric cooler! A Peltier! Same thing as used in many aftermarket CPU coolers only I would have to mod it to fit the CPU. So once again, would it work?

TEC fridges can cool a steaming chicken down to say 5c because the heat added to the fridges is finite. So it's just a question of how long it will take to cool the chick down.

However a CPU is constantly rejecting heat. This heat is more heat than these fridges are designed to remove per second ... so it wont work.

so if I were going to use it to cool a CPU I would need to use it to cool the water in a water cooled setup to be efficient?

No its simply not possible with that TEC and heat sink .. The TEC probably wont even be removing 50 watts so it can't cool a CPU thats generating 200 watts
