Default Apogee GTZ with 50mm Peltier

I'm asking to see if this will work better than the MCW6500-T. The reason why I am asking is because I don't want to use the MCW6500-T, for it having an aluminum housing plate. There would be two pieces of copper holding the peltier with proper pressure. The plates would be 55mm in side with the cold plate like the one on the MCW6500-T. Is this a good idea or try to find a way to make the housing plate on the MCW6500-T copper.

On the first point the housing plate is well coated and shouldn't cause any problems, the coating is after all a fairly important part due to the galvanic corrosion angle.

I agree with you that your idea is better in some ways as you intend to use the correct mounting pressures though some would query your choice of block as the apogee GTZ is intended for 4 core and has a small jet configuration for cooling the centre of the block. It is an arguable point, some prefer the older apogee's with more overall cooling. Me... I sit with the idea that the GTZ would work nicely especially as it has a nice large flat copper base.

The bottom line I think... is if your happy with DIY and fancy a slightly cheaper outlay go with your copper plates and waterblock. Many prefer mounting the TEC's with the waterblock as the hotside and use a backing plate on the board...this is OK if you have a strong waterblock but personally I'd prefer to do it the way your thinking.

With proper mounting pressures and a better choice of TEC's I would say the DIY option is the better one but remember the swiftech was always designed for reasonable results with minimal installation problems.

How were you planning on applying the pressure > cause I can’t see how it’s possible with 55mm plates, that only leaves 2.5mm each side.
You can get away with just applying pressure to the TEC via the motherboard and a DECENT backing plate

As for a peltier I wasn't too sure what to pick. The peltier i can get is the same one that is in the MCW6500-T from frozencpu, unless i can get a better one.

I could get bigger plates or a smaller peltier that can displace about the same amount of heat and if i get a smaller peltier, the plates will be smaller. Swiftech is able to put a 50mm peltier on a 55mm plate

Im sorry, I was getting my numbers mixed up. But with the hot plate being larger than the waterblock, does that lead to any problems.

TBH for cooling the hot side of a pelt you probably would be better off with something like the apogee gt that has a cooled pin matrix across the entire base of the block.

I do have the Apogee GTX with the copper housing. So will that work also
