This project is paused until further notice.
The concept is good, but it needs to get less complicated in order to compete against direct die cooling.

Update
I've made a few changes in the basic design, put in a 3-3-3 mounting bolt system, made a new flow pattern for the water blocks, and implemented some of my comments answers in the first post. The comments provided where very helpful

Does this maze look a bit better, the flow over the TEC's is improved, but will this take to much pressure to get a decent flow?

This project is entirely based upon the reduction of temperature inside a closed water cooling system.


TEC
TEC users are a rare breed, there are not allot of them and their set-up's are often revert to as: inefficient, expensive and difficult to make. Well they have a point, compared to air,water, of even phase change cooling, using one TEC at 100% of its designed maximum voltage mounted directly on a high DTP Microprocessor is just inefficient, from a energy and safety standpoint. However as some have people like Ultrasonic2 (muffy) have shown, it is possible to make a relative efficient TEC based water chiller. There are a few drawbacks in using a TEC chiller, versus mounting the TEC directly on top of the CPU, I have found:
  • Not as low CPU temperature's,
  • Expensive,
  • Time consuming to make
  • They,(except for some) don't fit inside a closed PC case.

But you don't have to worry about condensation, and the amount of electricity it uses will be reduced if you stay above the dew point.

Idea

This is where my idea comes in to practice. Is it possible to design a TEC based water chiller that is designed to fit within 2 or 3, 5.25inch (CD drive) bay's, and keeping the project low budget and low energy? I have done allot of reading about TEC's, and in theory my concept could work.
I plan to use 4 TEC's connected parallel and running them at 30-35% voltage to increase efficiency.

As for now I'm calculating the best ratio between: voltage, wattage, amount of TEC's and designing the product itself. How long all of this will take? I don't know but with the help from other more experienced TEC/ WC people it'll figure it out.

I have absolutely no experience with WC (or with TEC for that matter), so any help will be greatly appreciated.

This loop does not require that the tec's can fully transfer the total amount of heat from the components. They don't even need to be powered on, to use the system, this update will make overall performance it a bit less lower. However because you only have to run the TEC's at high CPU load or high ambient, the overall power consumption is greatly reduced. It does require a second radiator, but only a 120mm one. (Probably) The load on the TEC loop, will be lower than my previous version, because accordantly its transferring less heat. Rev 2.1

Glad you have got the thread underway. I dont think you will hear much positive about the current waterblock designs, but at least its a start.

Heres some radiator data. These are better than most radiators of the same size so cheaper radiators wont do so well.

Ultrasonic has done some work on it. If you have the time make sure you carefully read the thread where he uses Solidworks to simulate flow and thermal properties of various waterblock designs.

I have discussed some of this with you vis PMs but its best to have it all out in the open. Heres a few questions (there will be lots more):

1. What is the heatload you intend to cool? What CPU/frequency/voltage? How many watts of heat do you estimate this will produce?

2. What is the room temperature that you want this to work in?

3. What radiator, fans, pump are you planning to use on the hot side (allows us to estimate the temperature wthe standard watercooling so you have something as a baseline)?

4. Do you care about noise, size, cost or electricity consumption? Do you care about condensation?
