Default Question on peltier power.

I was wondering of you guys out there running your peltier off of a pc power supply are you running it to a connector on the psu or a direct 12v line? reason why im asking is my peltier keeps drawing to much power for the connectors on my psu and it keeps melting/catching the connectors on fire.

I was thinking about putting a resister in line with the connector any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

You should always use an external PSU like a meanwell or somesuch otherwise you risk setting a fire and/or melting the wires. That's why you seem to be having a lot of issues.

With the lower voltage TEC's I have a PSU I modded from a ATX PSU to power them at around 12vdc, with the higher voltage TEC's I have a 24v Meanwell that I use. There is a guide here in the stickies showing how to mod a ATX PSU that has at least a 25 amp 12v rail that will work pretty well.

About the smallest wire that I run on the smaller TEC's is 14 gauge multi-strand copper. I clip the TEC tails down to about a inch to inch and a half long and solder on ring terminals. I use a short bolt and nut to connect them to the PSU lines ring terminal and put a piece of heat shrink on over that. For the 24vdc TEC's I use 10 or 12 guage multi-strand copper.

With the ring terminals you can adjust them to various angles to, just use black tape on them to insulate.

Are you using standard Molex type connectors? If so they are not enuff. Look at higher power connectors. In fact, look at RC electric car connectors, they run 6-12 VDC and very high current. Any quality hobby shop will have them. Or Horizon Hobbies on the web.
