Which part of the loop would a peltier be most effective?

Hi, basically I was wondering where the best place to have a peltier in a cooling loop is. This is the idea I've had so far (excuse the primitive diagram, SketchUp is refusing to work), where I would mount it directly over the CPU, allowing the water block to dissipate the heat from the hot side. Alternatively, could someone throw together a quick diagram of how I could use a peltier to cool the water instead of the CPU directly?

Put the peltier right after the Radiator if you're going for a chiller.

Depending on the wattage of the TECs you plan on using it would be a bad idea to use an ATX PSU. Having done a bit of playing around myself the wires and connectors that are used in ATX PSUs do not tolerate the kind of currents that you can expect to draw from any decent TEC's this being said it's a much better idea to just use a meanwell or some other such dedicated PSU and use heavier gauge wire.

It's up to you of course, but I wouldn't spend 4 or 5 hundred dollars to get a few C better temp's then what I could get with a hard-core WC'ing set-up, put that money into your rig or pocket instead. I use a modded ATX PSU to power up to a 320W 15vdc TEC's,it runs around 12 volts, it needs at least 25 amp's on the 12vdc rail. There's nothing to it, look in the stickies here for a guide. EDIT: Here's a nice easy chiller build using a $99 window AC I'd run it as cold as I could get it though. ..Ok, I'm Chilled. I'm Chilled. Relax....56K Warning!

Yeah, I heard about people getting really hot wires supplying the TECs, higher gauge should do the trick and I'll go direct die. I'd probably opt for a custom PSU as well. Do these things cost alot to run? Their Wattages are immense!

The i7 is really running to hot for even the 437W, the 437W you need a special CPU block to even use it.fstfrddy makes mine, he's a member here. I was really dissapointed about the heat out-put on the i7, the E8### chips were perfect for the 437W TEC, I was getting decent temp's with a decent OC on one. Even single stage phase is pretty anemic on the i7 from what I've heard. This is a downloadable PDF...Melcor - Thermoelectric Handbook ...It's absolutely one of the best things for a new guy to look over, don't let it sweat you, a lot of the info will make more sense later on, and a lot of it you might never even need to use, but its a great resource. I'd really think long and hard about investing much in a TEC loop right now, I'd wait and see how much hotter newer cores then the i7 will be running,if you already have a maxed out WC'ing rig its not much expense to go with TEC, and it's a lot of fun. But to buy all new gear for one I would be real hesitent to do so. Take a look in the sticikies here for a mobo proofing guide Omar was kind enough to put together, a TEC sweats and condenses water a lot more then DICE/Ln2 and phase will, it's because of the wild temp swings, I'll go from -30C at idle to 6C over and over all day long depending on my load. Honestly if was just starting out and having to buy everything I'd look at a good phase rig, or just run on water and bench on DICE or Ln2 if you can find it in your area. A decent DICE pot can be had for around a $100 and less if you make your own. Of course you don't ever want to DICE anything your afraid of killing, I'm a little heavy handed on the voltages and generally kill a chip or mobo or ram almost on every benching session. I'm a noob at it so that probably has a lot to do with it. I've only done about 10 all night DICE runs so far. I'll be doing more when Winter rolls around again, Summer is for fishing.. ..
