Yeah keeping a sharp blade helps a lot. a little wax on the side of the blade will help to keep it from dragging and grabbing so much. Bee's wax is the best but a light coat of paraffin is real good to,that's what I use most of the time, helps to keep copper from building up on the blade to.
A little 6" chop saw works great for cross cuts, you can get thin abrasive wheels that you use on right angle grinders for them, like 0.042 thickness. I hate using a thick right angle grinder blade on them because it wastes so much copper. Now rip cutting with the grain is a pain for anything but a band saw, I don't have one either.. ..Wish I could find a little miniature one for less then $2-300, I might buy one. They want more for the little ones then the full sized saws, rip off's... ..I guess though it would take a little more precision to make a nice small one then a full sized one. So I just wax up my jewelry saw and coping saw and cut it. If I had much ot cut I'd have to get something else that's for sure!
