Do you mean, phase change? I guess shifting is the same thing. But no, freezers are ment to keep cool things cool, not cool a hot object, just like a refirgerator. Freezer pumps aren't ment to run 24/7, the pump will die relatively quick.

It's a lot more complicated than that. I'll let one of the phase experts reply.

A freezer can not handle the load form a PC. You'll get this response a lot from hereon.

I think you can use an air conditioner, though. You can pick one up for ~$100 at Wal-Mart. May be hard to find one in the winter, though...

A window air conditioner is perfect for a water chiller though.

A fridge/freezer won't work because it's cooling system is not designed for constant, high heat loads. But that's a system design issue, not a compressor size issue. Without knowing the specs of the compressor it's pretty hard to tell whether it will work for phase change. To the OP: Try asking your question on the Xtreme Systems forum, in the Vapor Phase Change Cooling section. You'll need the manufacturer and model for the compressor. Someone there will know.

Please read up on some of the guides I've seen here, you have a few people whom know they're material.
A fridge can handle a load constantly, just not a CPU load, not built for that. It could be modified for that though, with little work, just not powerful enough to really pull low temperatures. As for a window air conditioner, they've got a lot of power, almost too much sometimes, but can fairly easily converted over. |
