Default Noobish Phase question...

hey,
gonna be getting a phase unit from littledevil sooner or later, and want to know a few things....
how are they powered? do i need dual PSU's or will one suffice?
what sort of temps can i expect?
is it good for 24.7 use and are they noisy?

thanks
Nick

I take it that it's single stage? Are you going to go for a standard compressor or a rotary compressor?

If your asking questions like this do you really know what your doing with it?

Temps vary, from -20ish to -80C from what I've heard.
Noise as well; there are noisy and less noisy phase change units depending on how its made; if you're asking someone to make a custom one tell him you want it quiet. However this generally means less performance.

o.0 i sence a dead processor in the feature.

#1 they are all powered off of your wall outlet(only exception is thernaltakes units)

#2 depends on the voltage and the ghz you set your cpu to and how well the unit it tuned. a big enough single stage might alow your cpu to hover around -40c whal a smaller unit tuned for 200watt might make it hover around 0c to +10c.

#3 yes they can be good for 24-7 if they are built right

#4 if your are sensitive to loud noises this might not be for you. go stand next to a 15000btu window aircon to get an example.

Think of tuning a phase unit like tuning a guitar. things like the lenghth or diameter of the cap tube will effect the max heat load/temps. to much and the cooling performance will be less then stellar and can posiably kill the compressor but will allow for a higer heat load, to little and you will kill your processor or horiable temps once again. You might see large units or cascades use txv's(thermostatic expansion valve) which automaticly tunes the unit by the output temp of the evap, so it doesnt give to much refridgerant or to little.

i hope this helped, if you need me to clarify any more feel free to say so.

The phase change needs to be tuned to a certain wattage output range - e.g. 250W to 300W. Using the phase change with a CPU which doesn't have a thermal output in this range will not give optimal results
