i was thinking of getting a mountainmods case and putting my bench rig in it.
on the other side i wanted to build a STRONG SS or a cascade. i'll be cooling an i7 around 4.5ghz is this possible? how large of compressor would keeping the i7 cool require? |

it would be possible to fit a SS in there. there are a number of factors to consider when building a SS like type of refrigerant, size of condenser and the length and diameter of the cap tube not just the size of the compressor, the best to ask would be XS

well i would definitely be building a TXV system instead of a cap tube system. i thought of building a 2 stage cascade in it to better hold the load of the i7.
i got the idea of a cascade from a build on XS... http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...=218389&page=3 |

Been there done that.
Cascade will take up the whole case, unless you want something rather tiny, then its taking up the entire half and has too much heat. A proper large cascade will take up the whole cube. And again, you won't want to pay that for 24/7. Single stage is easy, but the heat can be a problem. So you have to do a few air circulation changes and divide the system off. |

its for benching only so thats not a problem. will only be run a few hours a week tops.
how about a single 5k-6.5k btu rotary? would that hold the i7 down? im not looking for super cold.... just -30c or so under load if thats not too much to ask for. im all for a SS but it will be a TXV setup, not captube. i'll be using a evap from teyber on XS. |

Larger doesn't mean better. It's just straight up unhealthy to run any compressor in vacuum. Those temps require a vacuum. And ten degrees really won't help you much as a healthy evap. And I still don't believe we are using "healthy" evaps. But the real cost of a 2 to 2.5" diameter evap with a long pathway is rather up there.
