WaterCooler

hey guys, i been watercooling my computer for 6 months already, now i am greedy and want higher clocs (apparently 4.5ghz not enough for me
) )i found someone selling vapochil LS around $350+shipping. i am gonna cool down my I7 920 around 1.5V would it be nice move? or waste of money? i already have 2x PA120.2 waiting to be put in rocketfish case for this system. (current wc setup is based on swiftech mcr320) So is it worth to it 24/7 use? and my other question is the energy use, does it spend a lot of energy? i dont to get crazy electricity bill.

A Vapochil LS wont be able to handle your i7's heat load. It would burn out pretty quick unless you get it re-tuned and re-gassed. Even then you wont see amazing temps. Pretty much all retail units today cant handle a quadcore.

I'm using a VapoChill LS on an overclocked FX-60 Dual Core CPU for years now. These CPU's put out around 110 watts at stock speed of 2.6GHz. My one is on 3.25GHz and happy. The i7 920 Quad Core CPU's put out 130 watts I believe, (correct me if I'm wrong) so not that much more heat. (At stock speed and voltage anyway). Once you overclock, and increase voltages, then the VapoChill LS might struggle. They are designed to remove up to 200 watts of heat. A i7 920 overclocked to 4.2GHz+ is going to put out quite a bit of heat under load I would expect. How well a VapoChill LS handles it, well you don't really know until you try. If you do buy one, make sure you insulate very well and leave the heaters on. They are very power effecient compared to using peltier cooling. Yes I have used peltiers too. Currently my rig is phase-change and liquid cooled. Cheers.

Overclocked i7 put out over 200w on air. Under phase, you can expect them to hit 250-300w... or more.

go for it. just make sure you go get it tuned for the correct load. probably 250watts. ncspec has run one on his i7 965 with no problems. there are plenty of people on xs that can do it for you. sdumper?
