I'm not aware of any limit. I have WD Scorpio's in mine, 320GB. The difference between 7200 and 5400 RPM is negligible. I'd recommend the 5400 just to keep heat at a minimum.

I don't believe they make laptop hard drives in that capacity yet. Highest I've seen is 500GB.

The higher speed is unnecessary. It will not increase load speeds or installation I guarantee it. The best I can see being reduced is maybe half a second or something.

Simply because the PS3 has a really slow disc reader. It is only 2x read speed. This is abnormally slow and was obviously done to keep the price of the Blu-Ray drive as low as possible. Does that make Blu-Ray worse? No, it doesn't degrade the quality or the load time of movies.

What the slow speed does do - is basically force the installations for the games on the PS3. The game simply cannot load all the necessary data constantly from the disc without having a massive load time before a level. So the PS3 installs all the necessary/most used data like textures and sounds to the hard drive.

So, it really doesn't matter how fast the hard drive is. The PS3 is only going to install and load data as fast as the Blu-Ray drive can load to the hard drive. So, if you get a really fast hard drive - basically, you're bottlenecking. One component (disc drive) is forcing the other component (hard drive) to be on equal level of speed/performance.

^i agree wat u said but how bout this guy's post

http://boardsus.playstation.com/play...cending&page=1

the 7200rpm is only like 15-20bux more and that seems worth it to me...plus if u ever need to use for ur computer setup, 7200rpm HDs r faster for sure

1)btw...any of u guys have trouble with 'stripping the screws' when u take out the ps3 HD? thats my only real concern

2) we don't have to hook up any cables to the 2.5inch sata drive? how does the ps3 attach power to this drive? im confused

after reading this review on newegg, i think i'll b getting this HD

Pros: Great price. Great capacity. After reading other reviews, I was worried about the noise, but mine runs silent.

Cons: None encountered so far after having the drive for 3 weeks.

Other Thoughts: I was almost scared away from ordering this drive after reading about the loud clicking noise. I have a two year old so once he is in bed I have to leave the volume of my receiver very low and was worried about the loud clicking sounds. Mine has ran ultra quiet and I can't even hear it. I also read in a review about the PS3 only seeing 419GB unlike the 465GB that you normally get from a 500GB drive, however my PS3 sees the full 465GB. (I am guessing Sony made a firmware update to correct this). I would definitely buy this drive again.
anyone have that drive? cuz if it reads 465gb thats awesome!

Odd considering people like Gamespot have done the benches themselves, one with the Solid State Drive, and they all pretty much came out to be extremely similar results.

So is there a way to change the blu-ray drive on the ps3,and if so what's the fastest bd reader out there?i haven't been keeping up with console mods lately.

I think that they used 2x drives because that's all that was out when the first few SKU's of PS3's were released.
