I thought of that but it "could" be true 5.1 but it seems like an analog input so I personally would say no.

I searched google and other places and cheapest I could find was 60$ for a no-name semi-don't trust the site, everything else was 80$+ which is way too much for me.
I think I got mine used for $50 on ebay but without the AC adapter. I found an adapter at radio shack but it was like $18. I should have just bought the DVI switch new which is around $80 like you mentioned.

Alright thanks, I actually ended up not needing a switch, I used one of the DVI -> VGA adapters for my GPU and am running the computer using a VGA cable and the PS3 on the DVI so now its just one push of a button on the monitor to switch, so far haven't noticed any lower quality with the VGA so I'm happy with that, and it didn't cost anymore haha.

whats the picture quality difference between a HD monitor and something like this: http://www.pcconnection.com/IPA/Shop...ci_sku=7593259

(24" 245BW Widescreen LCD Monitor, Black)
-1920 x 1200 Max Resolution / Digital Visual Interface (DVI)
-5ms Response Time / 3000:1 Contrast Ratio

I'm looking to do this, but I don't have a ps3 and I'm thinking about getting a new monitor

in short, I'll have to go home and see what my monitor supports, but it's pretty old. If I was to buy a new monitor, what would be the best option now in terms of both value and supported features that aren't dying technologies.

Thanks

Default Audio question

This guide is great, but I have a question about the audio setup. I will plug in the AV connector into the back of the PS3, hook in a RCA-->3.5 converter, and then plug the headphone jack INTO the "audio INPUT" port, correct? If so, isn't this connection normally BLUE? Thanks a lot for the help.

Hi, I'm really new here and sorry if I necropost or anything but I would like to ask some questions.

First of all, this really and awesome guide, Transonic! I was wondering, what kind of monitors would support this modification? What should be their specs?

Also, is there a simpler way to get the audio output to computer speakers?

I looked around...would an rca minijack adapter do the job?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you! If I could, I would've just sent a PM to you, but I don't know how and couldn't see that function in your profile.

Default Need help with the KVM Switch

This is a great thread by the way. It helped me out alot. I was using my PC with the VGA cable to my monitor and the HDMI to DVI to the DVI on my monitor because it has both. But I wanted to digitaly sign my monitor with Vista so I got a KVM281 2 Port USB KVM Switch. I works great for my PC video and mouse/keyboard. Also I can get my mouse and keyboard to work with my PS3; however I cannot get a picture with my PS3 when I switch the KVM over to the correct channel.??? Is there something I have to load onto the PS3 before it will work. The KVM didn't come with any software because it claims it's Plug and Play. Please help.

If it's a VGA KVM switch, you probably can't put the HDMI signal through it, as it's not designed to convert it to analog.

does anyone know if i could use this 5.1 Game Console Adapter that converts the rca into three headphone jacks instead of using those female rca adaptors? if i could it seems like a little less wiring.
