Sorry, had to throw that in there.
There would be no point as you can not make up for the lost quality. That would be the equivalent of like trying to convert a mp3 encoded in a 128 bitrate to a 320 bitrate. It cannot happen.

I would like to know what 360 can do compared to PS3..Not in a fanboy way just wondering what would be cool ideas each company could take from eachother. I would like to see 360 with a few more abilities that im sure its capable of...Folding for one..I hope they hurry with that one.

The 360 can do a lot of the same things, just differently. But I find those things to be much more intuitive on the PS3 vice the 360. That's just me though. Streaming media from a server is a good example of this. On the 360 you have to do it through Media Center, whereas on the PS3 it's from the XMB. It's just easier and faster on the PS3 (that's not a fanboy comment, it's just the plain old truth).

One thing the 360 has that the PS3 doesn't as of yet is the ability to stream different types of content from the web (not through a browser). For example, through Media Center you can watch clips from Comedy Central and other feeds like that.

It's a sweet concept, but Media Center is so clunky on the 360 that it's annoying (again, my opinion). I've heard rumors that the PS3 is supposed to have this sort capability in the future, which would be cool.

Of course, the PS3s web browser performs almost the same function. It is fun to watch Youtube clips from the PS3's browser in the living room. It's good entertainment.

Like I have said before. They have advantages and disadvantages. I would like to see PS3 to be able to stream other types of content though.

I have a question about the media streaming capability after reading over the list a couple of times.

Does it have playback of Matroska (.mkv) anime encodes? If someone could check it and see, that would be most helpful. Great thread!

These are the only supported formats for streaming media as far as I know. What'd youd have to do is convert the .mkv's into one of the video formats below. All of my video was in .avi format which isn't supported either...but using Super converter I just made them all .mpeg-2's and they work great.

VIDEO
• MPEG-1
• MPEG-2 (PS,TS)
• H.264/MEPG-4 AVC
• MPEG-4 SP

MUSIC
• ATRAC (.oma .msa .aa3)
• AAC (.3gp .mp4)
• MP3 (.mp3)
• WAV (.wav)

IMAGES
• JPEG
• GIF
• PNG
• TIFF
• BMP

I hate to come off as a fanboy but it might just sound like it, and its not only you that are making this mistake. A 360 faq would be great because this question is tossed around all the time. To stream media to the 360 you do not need media center. You can stream videos/music/pictures with a xp and mac i think to. But doing it that way does have it limitations.

If anyone is willing to start up a 360 faq ill be more then happy to help. I wish i could help with the PS3 but i do not have one at the time.

I was in microcenter the other day and was playing both side by side the PS3 and the 360 (I own the 360 myself) and too me it just seems that the PS3 looks better with graphics. I have no idea what the specs are of each system but do think that the PS3 was built to last a few year longer than the 360. The sale rep at microcenter was telling me that there are going to be a lot of things to come with the PS3. I feel like when I bought the 360 that this console would be around but now (IMHO) I feel like they are just all set on the adds and will have another version of Xbox but PS3 will still be there pumping. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong on any of this but at this point I wish I waited for the PS3.
By the way great post and rep for you.
