Default PS3 distorting image

I've been having this problem for awhile now. If I hook up my PS3 using regular component cables to me 1080i HDTV I get large horizontal green and purple lines that slowly and continuosly climb up my screen. They're not solid color, they're more of a haze so I can still play but it is sure annoying.

I was wondering if anyone here had any idea what was going on and how to fix it.

Thanks

Why are you using component cables? HDMI cables all the way

Because they are the same quality?

Does your TV have any problems with 1080i from another device?

And not all HDTVs have HDMI inputs. My gaming HDTV predates HDMI by a couple of years.

I wish people would stop respondnig this way when the find out that someone is using component cables. There's nothing wrong with component, kids.

Make sure any other non-needed electronics(dvd players, cable/sat boxes) are off. Mine was getting interference from my satellite HD-DVR which caused white lines up/down and left/right.

And for the record: I love component!

i had my ps3 on component as well with zero problems. Id follow claymanhb's advice and check for interference, or the cables themselves could be bad. I had the same problem with my xbox 360, the component cables werent showing any color, just black and white. Replaced the cables and it was fine.

Vulcan has the better Spock pic

I think some device interfearing would be one of the more common problems. Are your composite cables shielded? Also if you uncheck 1080i in your ps3 setup so it won't try 1080i, do you still have the lines? If not, it could be an issue with your TV running 1080i on a composite connection, which could be the case also.

When I was reading on how to fix my issue with the horizontal scrolling white lines, I read something about the PS3 being double-grounded and this causes the issue. Some suggestions were to remove the grounding plug from the power cord. I don't know if I would want to risk frying my $500 console or being electrocuted though. It may be worth looking up.
