Default Who is disappointed at GTA IV?

I have finished the main story line and have to say that this game is less than what I expected. Mostly because almost all the reviews give it a perfect "10" before release.

Sure, the game is great. GTA IV's story and character development is probably the best one in the franchise. But the game is no where as revolutionary as from GTA II to III (quote from IGN reviews).

If there is any major update, its the addition of multiplayer. But again, the MP is far from perfect due to its simplicity and lack of balancing. The graphic is iincrementally better than the previous GTA title. But who doesn't expect this when the game is been release on a new console generation?

I know there are many refined features in GTA IV such as cellphone use, new aim, social activities, email and internet and public transportation. But there is a cost for these. Now we have less weapon choices, less side missions, less vehicles, less character customization, smaller city, no estate, and most of all~ less home save parking space!! I remember I could stuff up to 6 cars into GTA III's home garage but now I only get 2 vehicles parking space infront of every safe house. Not mention, your car gets jacked from your park spot occaionally. But I do welcome the taxi feature, which makes go around MUCH easier.

Regarding missions... they are almost exactly the same layout as previous GTA title except much easier. I remember you could remote control RC cars to bomb destinated targets and steal a fighter jet in the previous titles. This level of complexity is just not present in GTA IV. For this game, all you need to do is stack up tons of ammo from Little Jacob at a discount price and storm the target with a pair of heavy armed homies (Dawyne). I often finish most shoot out mission unharmed.

When compare with other GTA IV titles... the game is much narrower and there is less you can do after main story. In fact, this maybe the first GTA that I will be able to have 100% completion.

Final word... It may not be fair to ask Rockstar to included all the extra features from previous title on top of new implenmentations and still selling it as one game. So I would definately give this game a 9.5.... but it doesn't deserve to be ranked higher than previous GTA titles.

What you think?

i personally think they could have wrinkled out the graphics more with the amount of time RS had to complete this, when i was playing, sometimes it looked so bad around the edges.

I don't think it will make a difference. The graphic is a 720p that has been upscaled to 1080. not true 1080p.

I haven't finished the game yet (not even half way lol), but I'm enjoying the heck out of it. It's the only GTA that I think I'll be able to finish, because I don't get bored with it. All the other titles I liked just going on a shooting spree and messing around, but this one I actually feel like I have to follow the storyline. But that's just my opinion.

I played it most of the weekend and I am pretty disappointed in the game.. Don't get me wrong it is a good game, it just doesn't feel like a GTA game anymore.. I definitly miss the Planes, there are no bicycles, which is strange, and the realistic-ness of the game is kind of a plus and minus imo..

i love the game. i just wish you could interact with more places other than just to eat and buy clothes and guns. something I thought they wouldve progressed on after SA. I think with gta iv they havent really hit any 'new' ground. Atleast in a big way. Yes you can go on the net and hack police car computers etc but they have actually taken alot OUT of past games to even it out. Swimming under water, changing your hair, going to the gym, riding a bicycle. All of those things have been removed. I'm not too sure why. But the biggest difference IMO is style. GTA vice city and san andreas were full of style and character and it was very silly but at the same time you took it seriously. with gta iv its all alot more serious and gritty and it treads very closely to 'mafia' with its approach to free-roam crime. It depends on the gamer whether thats a good thing or not. But I still feel the urge to go back and play san andreas after playing GTA IV. Both are very different.

i both love and dislike certain aspects of the game. I agree the extra things like owning real estate, bicycles, planes etc, should have been included, but i feel that they did do a lot right with the game (not enough to get some many perfect scores though, 9.7 same as Bioshock, would be right for me). I never need to use my money, i have tens of thousands of dollars for what....at least I could buy a house or two before..i guess it all depends on the gamer.
