Default Playstation 3 Media Server video format?

I was just wondering what is the best format for video content for the Media Server function for the PS3?

I am using MP3 for music and JPEG for Pictures but most of my movies are .MKV and the PS3 does not support that.

Would anyone be able to recommend a good converter and tell me whats the best format to use?

I have my movies encoded as regular mp4(not supported). I had to use nero media home and force the transcoding to mpeg2 high quality. This lets me stream my mp4's and they look very good.

Not sure about mkv but I know its pretty close to mp4. So hopefully this will work for you too.

I do have the newest version of Nero 8. I just bought it a week ago. I was wondering if you could help me set it up or if you could show me a guide for it so I can see if I can do the same with MKV?

I only skimmed this real quick but it sounds right.

http://boardsus.playstation.com/play...hread.id=45512

I did not use media scout though. I only added the folder my movies were in. Then set the video transcode to mpeg2 high quality and started server. Its worked fine for me. You will only be able to fast forward at 1.5x though using this because it transcodes on the fly.

I only use this for my mp4's. All other files I just use windows media player to stream.

all my AVI files work with my ps3 media server. There are some formats that dont work with the ps3 though.

Heres a thread on another forum that may help you:

anyone know why when I scan for my music, it only shows a few folders? and not all my music on my PC? Everything is in my shared music folder, so why does it only allow access to a few and not all?

What tool are you using? You have to specify what folders you want to be shared within the program.
