Hey,
I am thinking about buying anew monitor that also has HDMI input, and doubling it as my TV, which I use almost only for playing PS3. Trouble is that the monitor has some terrible built in speakers and HDMI transmits audio and video, and I have a 5.1 home theater system I'd like to keep hooked up to it. Is there some way to desync the audio from the HDMI? My guess would be that you could do it with the optical audio port, but I have no experience with that so not really sure. Thanks, Victor

You should be able to separate the image and the sound apart. I am using my monitor for my PS3. I am using a HDMI to DVI cable. My sound is output by a PS3 RCA cable to my receiver and then to my speakers.
In the Display section of your PS3, right after you select your resolution, it'll ask you to setup your sound. I believe it should be a simple select of the optical cable.

Yup, thats how i have mine set up. I ran a optical cable to my surround sound system, and have just video going through the HDMI cables.
In the settings it allows you to choose which output you want for what. Also, it allows you to choose the frequency of your output.

Oh, so it works with having Video through the HDMI and audio through the standard RCA cable? That's excellent.
Thanks for the quick reply and +rep

no, not through RCA, optical audio. Hook up the HDMI to the monitor and a Toslink cable to your stereo unit. That is the same way i have it.
With RCA, you will only get 2.1 audio, with toslink you will get 5.1.

you could connect hdmi from ps3 to your receiver and from there to your monitor which will require 2 hdmi cables and also hdmi video out from your reciever.
