Well my only guess is that they wanted to increase HDD sizes and maybe make other hardware changes. I'm not sure why they would remove BC from current models or take away 2 USB ports though.

Go for it. I have to update it though for the newest model. Also I never found out more info about the other mysterious 80 gb model. I know its out there I just don't have a list for it.

Sorry, but I was given bogus intel on gigabit only being available on current models. It seems all PS3's have had 10/100/1000.
