Hey I was just wondering where I might be able to find out how much it would cost to have a PS2 slim repaired. The optical drive will not spin anymore. Is it worth it, about 2 yrs old have plenty of games to play on it & I actually like the PS2.

Ya it is a pretty good console. I think it would be a lot less haste to just go buy a new one to be honest. I sold a fat PS2 from practically launch to a friend though and its still working fine. I hope my slim never breaks.

Just get a new one, they will charge you 60$ or more anyways to fix it.

Yeah I'd go ahead and get a new one. They are mad cheap. I had my phat PS2 for six years until it stopped playing DVD movies. Oddly though it still kept playing games flawlessly. I gave it away to my boss's kid once I decided to move on to the next gen consoles.

Thanks that was about what I was figuring anyway but thought it might be worth asking about at least. It was my son's who broke it. I made him pay with his own money to replace it & was thinking if it wasn't too bad I would fix it for myself but if it's the same as buying another used one from Gamestop, like he did then no it's not worth it to me. Thanks again everybody

Heh, I remember when my fat PS2 stopped reading because I was a newb and tried to up the voltage on the DVD-side of the laser. Granted, it worked, but only for about 5 months.

Get a fat one with a network adapter and use the elf hacks to use HDloader. The Slims can use HDDs, but you need to buy an adapter and solder it on :\
