Hey guys, how does this look considering it's 480i 640x480 and on YouTube.
I just made a quick test capture from a Dazzle, and was wondering to know if it looks decent or not? I think in my opinion it's the best I'm going to get unless I find out better settings. Edit: I just now realized there's so NSFW language. Just watch the first 10 seconds and let me know if the quality is decent enough. Edit: More higher quality improvement tests are on Page 2 and 3.

There's rainbowing (text flickering in the beginning) and blending.
The blending is probably because it was blend deinterlaced. The quality will likely improve tons if the blending is gone. If you aren't already using Component, then use it. Composite is bad (probably the cause of the rainbowing). I can help you fix both, but don't bother asking for help unless you have some patience (lots of people ask me for help then ditch me in the middle).

From my understanding, I can't capture with component with my Dazzle.
I'm currently using 3 Y-Splitters connected to my TV, one set of RCAs connected directly to the PS3 and the other set connected to the Dazzle. That's the only way from my understanding that I can capture with the Dazzle DVC 170. Unless there is a way to make it slightly better using MPEG4 or better DIVX settings, I really don't think I'll be able to get it much better.

What format does it upload to? Can you upload a ~10 sec capture of the menu or something?

I can get a capture of the menu, but I use Pinnacle Studio to capture it.
It can only capture 480i from my understanding. I've seen some other peoples capture from the same Dazzle, and it's been about the same quality. I'm currently capturing it at 480i with the Dazzle and saving it with the DivX codec at 640x480 at like 4000kbits or so. I don't really think there is an option to not deinterlace unless I missed it.

I managed to capture at 720x480, MPEG-2, then output it as an AVI, and then used VirtualDub to deinterlace it, as well as improve the sharpness.
How does this look? I believe the interlacing is removed and there is no more rainbow effect in text. I haven't tested this method out in games yet, but I think the text is much more clear and readable. Edit: Here's one of MGS4. I think this is the best quality I'm going to get out of the Dazzle.

I still caught blending (MGS4, when he rolls at 1:15), even though it was ridiculously hard with the low motion and horrible quality. Avoiding blend deinterlacing will make it much easier to compress, and thus increase quality by a lot.
__________________You had no interlacing before either, it's your method of deinterlacing that causes the blending. Don't use VirtualDub. It still gets updates, sure -- but nobody uses it anymore because of how outdated its "roots" are (being AVI-based and all). Also, you converted to AVI *before* bringing it to VirtualDub? Bad >_>

Actually, in the MGS4 clip, it was captured as MPEG4 at 720x480 8000kbits I believe in Pinnacle Studio, then after it's edited and it's saved, it was changed to MPEG2 at the same bitrate.
I think it looks loads better. Also, the reason I originally converted it to AVI was because VirtualDub wouldn't load the MPG. In the MGS4 clip, I hadn't done any deinterlacing or any enhances. There's a little blur and whatnot, but I think part of it is also YouTube, since my original video looks a lot cleaner. I guess I'll keep trying but with this Dazzle it's pretty limited. What would you suggest I try besides VirtualDub?

![]() The blending is because of blend deinterlacing (or resizing without deinterlacing). Blending makes stuff unbelievably hard to compress because nothing has a clear edge. By extension, it makes everything look blurry, not to mention the compression hurdles also create tons of artifacts. If you show someone who doesn't know what blending is a video with blending (such as one of The Lonely Islands' videos - blend deinterlaced), they'll just say it looks kinda weird. If they're a gamer, they'll probably say it feels like there's ghosting, because it looks almost the same. Quote:
The quality is bad because you don't believe you can get more from it, so you aren't even trying. edit: I think it's not even interlaced, just telecined, so you can get clean progressive video out of the capture. I managed to spot a 3:2 pattern of blends in the MGS4 clip. Quote:
