Post PSP Slim screen replacement tutorial. (56k warning. Pictures!)

Cracked your precious psp slim lcd screen and your local game shop wants $100+ to fix it?

Have no fear this guide will aid and instruct you on how to successfully fix your psp slim for nearly half the cost.

First here's an overview of how your psp should look like before you begin and what you'll need.

Now that you have a general idea of what you have and where it's going; lets start!

  • Step one, make sure all the black flaps on the ribbon receivers on the
motherboard are flipped up and out the way. If you try jamming them in
while they are in the 'locked' down position you run a chance of damaging
something. (I chipped off part of my large plastic receiver mold for the
screen if you look closely doing this! )
    Take the ribbon connection and
slide it in the appropriate receiver. You can you the flat head and push
the reinforced plastic part on the ribbon gently to get it in or use your
thumbnail if you want. Close the black flap to secure it in place when
finished. Fold the home row down out of the way to make way for the screen coming next.

You will repeat this same process later with the two video screen ribbon
connectors after adding the rubber seal. Insert the connectors gently and
then close the black flaps as well after each.

  • Step two, you will need to take the black rubber seal off your old psp
screen and transfer it to your new one. The adhesive is pretty good and
I've reapplied mine to the old and new several times so you don't have to
worry about getting it perfect the first time. You will want to take note of
where the actual pixels on the screen end at the bottom of the black
screen just above the white trim. Your seal is not large enough to go
around the entire thing and you also need to have space for your home
    bar to fit.

  • Last step is to seal up your psp. Make sure all the rubber pieces are in place. The button pad needs to go in place before the screen is set down.

  • Then the home row gets flipped back in place and clips back on. Take top shell with the D-pad on it and place it over the psp.

  • Allign everything properly and carefully with the screw holes. Then take
the small screw to secure the shell in place on bottom. Then Add the
other screws to finish securing the rest. Add the battery and cover and
    your finished!

If anyone wants to buy a new LCD, I recommend buying it from www.dealextreme.com. I bought several PSP LCDs from them and they all work fine except the first one because back then they didn't check the LCDs.

DX is a great place for psp parts.

Just fyi the psp screens are not all compatible. Basically you can't buy a psp 1000 screen and put it in a 2000 or 3000. Or vice versa.

Dealextreme has been out of stock on psp 2000 screeens for a long while. I waited several months and finally risked it on one from ebay.

(Funny story, it accidentally went to my old Florida address and got rained on, then my parents sent it up to Montana and it survived! )
