because your Seagate external is NTSF
PS3 only reads FAT32.
reformat your external to FAT32 and it'll read it.

I checked the properties of the external and it says that its FAT32..

Any other reason it doesn't want to work?

oh crap, forgot they made 320GB portable drives

Is this a Freeagent Portable or normal Freeagent drive? aka portable or desktop?
If its the portable one, most likely its because the USB ports on the PS3 aren't offering enough juice to run the HD.

It doesn't use FAT32.
It can read FAT32 like every other OS can though.
