Default PS3 Problem

I use the composite hookup for my tv(VGA), as it has no other input ports. I can hear the sound just fine, but I can't see the video. I've tried switching cords between the PS2 and PS3 ones, but that didn't work. I've done all of the troubleshooting, pushing power button until it beeps, etc. I don't know what to do now, I have no other option of playing it beside composite and I'm not really willing to pay Sony to fix it for me for $150.

Anyone know a fix to this or had similar problems?

Have you tried using the regular VGA Cables? (RED/WHITE & Yellow)

Do you have a way to check if your HDMI output is working, your PS3 might be set to only display through HDMI.

The VGA is what I'm referring to as composite, and no not right now. I ordered a HDMI to DVI cable last night from Newegg to hook it up to my monitor. It won't be here for a few days though.

This should work as it resets your output settings to detect the TV correctly.

Hook it up to the screen you wish to use but when you turn your PS3 on hold down the PS3 power button and you should hear 2-3 beeps. This will detectwhat screen your using and your good to go.

You say you have done this...have you tried a couple of times ?

Yeah, I've tried many times of doing that.

I talked to a friend about it, and he told me the steps to go through on the menus to reset the output. Since I could hear the clicks of the menu, I could find which one to go to, but that didn't work either..

@ Tator Tot; The only way I have to hook it up is the VGA/Composite cable.

if you need, I could walk you through blindly into setup and set it to display back to composite. but enterprise is right, it should auto detect the display anyway

EDIT: NVM then. you may have a bad cable or your tv isnt set to line 1 input or channel 0

It might be your TV thats gone kaput? Maybe take you PS3 over to a friends who has a HD tv and see if that works.
