If it's connected via HDMI, will this monitor work fine with a PS3?

Yes, that monitor should work and you can output audio separately from HDMI.

Yeah, that's exactly how I have mine set up Alex.
Looks and works great.

As for sound, yeah you can change the option in the XMB
for the sound to come from composite cable.

Full of win.

How about sound? Does the PS3 have a 3.5mm output jack?

You know the cable for the PS3, the one with Red/white/yellow?
Well you plug that in and use the red and white cable to output
the sound to a set of speakers or if it is like you said a stereo
jack then you'll need an adaptor, like £3 from Maplins.

Yeah, you set the audio to output from the component cable
through the options menu on the PS3.

I have my ps3 hooked up to my Samsung T240 and I bought the Astro Mixamp A40 and ran the optical out from the ps3 to the amp and the sound quality is great.

Yeah, get something that supports optical. Optical is very good and has the best quality and the PS3 will detect automatily if there is an optical cable used. So the sound going through the HDMI cable will get cut off automaticly!
