Default First time buying PS3?

I know I'm very late but I'm finally buying a PS3 and I was wondering if there were any accessories or games you would recommend? I'm definitely getting MW2, MAG and Uncharted 2.

Just another question, I'm getting a projector soon but now i'm stuck with a old tube TV if I wanna play in my room, so I was wondering if its possible to play the PS3 using the old yellow, red, white component cables. Thanks!

Yes it is possible to use the red, yellow, white cables. It actually comes with them. If you wanted to use anything else, you would have to get another set of cables. I would also get another controller if you plan on playing multiplayer with anyone else.

Welcome! The PS3 is a great system and can be used for everything! If you need an HDMI cable don't spend more than 10 bucks on it. Its digital.

However if you need component cables you can spend extra on those since they are analog.

As far as conventional connectors for Y/R/W you have to purchase them separately.

The great thing about the PS3 is its ability to adapt to current technology. A headset can be the Bluetooth you use for your cell phone or a USB set you use on your computer. As long as your device is USB it most likely will work with the PS3. So check all your devices and see what you need to add.

The HD is also a Laptop HD. So if you need extra space its no biggy!

As far as games. I would definitely recommend MGS 4 and God of War collection. Awesome!

Get these trigger attachments, you'd be amazed how much better they make the controller feel.

Also look at Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet, God of War 3 (out soon ), Valkyria Chronicles, lots of good stuff

the composite cables come in the box, I know, I ran my ps3 like that for a few months. I got dmc4 pretty recently, and it's pretty sweet. I'd also get GoW3 when it comes out. Resistance 2 and Kill Zone 2 are good, as well. And get a second controller on newegg or amazon, they can be found for ~$40, you don't have to pay $55+tax, like in the store. And MGS4 seems pretty sweet, as well. Oh and GTA4.

I highly recommend:
God of War Collection (if you didn't play them back when they were on PS2), GTAIV (if you didn't play it on 360 or PC), Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Resistance. And God of War 3 comes out soon, as well as Bad Company 2.

However, the really must-haves (in my opinion) there are GTA4 and Metal Gear Solid 4. And LittleBigPlanet, if you like that type of game (and I do). I would also say Uncharted 1 and 2, but I haven't actually played them yet, but I keep hearing that they are must-haves. The other ones are just very good games, but maybe not must-haves, in my opinion. God of War 3 is also a must-have, when it comes out soon. You definitely should get that!

MW2... eh, if you really want I guess. I mean it's a good and fun game, but I really think you should spend the money on some other games and play them first, that are much better IMO. I'm not a MW2 hater, I do think it's a fun game. But it really isn't that fantastic. I think you should get Battlefield: Bad Company 2 instead (which comes out pretty soon as well). You can download and play the demo for free on PSN once you get your PS3, and you can test it out and see how you like it. I personally love it.

And MAG is pretty good, but again I think there are some other games that you should look at getting first. Like maybe getting Uncharted 1 so you can play that before Uncharted 2, although they apparently have unrelated plots. But then if you played Uncharted after playing Uncharted 2, you might be disappointed in the first one since the 2nd one is supposedly better in just about every way (although the first is supposedly very good also).

And yes, it's very possible to play PS3 with the old Red/Yellow/White cables. I did while I was playing at my parents' house, before I came back with my roommates and played on my roomie's TV. That cable actually comes with the PS3. However, an HDMI cable cable does not come with it (although maybe it comes with the slim PS3 now, I'm not sure) so you will have to buy that separate.

Demon's Souls is a great game, and I really liked the online option it has, makes it so much more fun.

This is very true, I plugged my microsoft wireless keyboard/mouse receiver in and it worked perfectly with my ps3.

It also recognizes my iPod that I've turned into an external HDD as an external HDD, something that my 360 refuses to do. Now I can stream movies via the iPod in 1080p to my T.V via PS3

You're talking about composite, not component.

Composite Video = just Yellow for video (with Red and White for audio)
Component = video split into Red, Blue, and Green (with Red and White for audio)

As for games, in my option, where the PS3 really shines is the downloadable Playstation Network titles like Fat Princess and Pain. There haven't been many retail games that have impressed me.
