As anyone on Overclock.net following the launch of the PS3... there are some serious concerns. Cost? ahhemmm... but when the BBC puts articles labled "
Nintendo steals the show at E3" then you got some problems. Looks like the only way Sony will come out of this is to provide a 'must have' system, like the PS2... We'll see!

I would, yes. There are PS2 exclusive titles (or at least released a year earlier on the PS2 than anywhere else) that I consider must-have games, thus the PS2 is a must-have console. In fact, I finally broke down and bought mine because of Final Fantasy X. Factor in the bazillion fans of Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet, and Clank, Katamari Damarci, etc. and it is clear that the PS2 led the pack in the last gen for a good reason.

But even if they duplicate their excellent stable of games on the PS3, a $599 price point is flat-out going to kill them.

Final Fantasy will eventually go out on PC and other console like all the other final fantasy that were "sony exclusive", Metal Gear Solid is already on gameCube, Grand Theft Auto is everywhere, I hate Jak and Daxter and Ratchet... the only game that I'd actually consider buying the PS2 for would be Katamari Damaci and maybe Guitar Heroe but I'm not sure thats exclusive... but I just hate the cheaply made controller so I'll never buy it, 1 week of hockey gaming with those piece of crap and your X button is sure to be broke -__- Anyhow from what E3 showed Sony just did like they did when they presented the PS2 and gave because higher expectation then they could actually give.

The only reason why I bought my PS2 was for Gran Turismo.

I think San Andreas was the last title Sony got exclusive rights to sell, so now all of the platforms will be getting the GTA series at once, so I wouldn't say GTA is a PlayStation exclusive title (only for 6 months).

Gran Turismo and the Final Fantasy series were only great exclusive titles Sony had. Now that FF is coming to the Xbox, looks like the GT series is really all Sony has, well I guess MGS is there as well, but I never got into MGS

All right everyone, I know that GTA is coming out on the X360 at the same time as the PS3. But we were not talking about the PS3, the point under debate was whether the PS2 was a must-have console. And all GTAs were released on the PS2 long before any other platform (at least six months).

Like Jori said, only a couple Final Fantasy games have made it to the PC. And those were Playstation 1 FFs, not PS2 (except XII Online, which I personally don't really count as part of the series). The last "good" Final Fantasy, FF X, is many years old now and does not look like it will ever make it to the PC.

MGS is the same as GTA; sure it's out on non-PS2 platforms now, but how long did it take to get it there?

Not that I have issue with waiting for games to come to other platforms, I actually think it's great for games to be cross-platform. But the games mentioned so far (MGS, GTA, and FF) have rabid fan bases that want the games on day one, not 6 to 12 months later (if ever).

No idea what you're talking about, my PS2 controllers have never experienced any problems of any kind. And I've played the heck out of my PS2.
