Default Do I NEED a New PSU for a 7800GT?

OK, I'm a little short on money right now. I'm getting a 7800GT to power my new 20.1" 1600 x 1200 Samsung monitor. My question is, do I NEED a new PSU to run a 7800GT, with no overclock on it, stock voltage on CPU and RAM, no volt mods or anything like that. Everything stock voltage, CPU overclocked to 2.42 GHz. I don't really have money to be throwing around, but if it a NECESSITY I technically can afford it.

Thanks,
pow3rtr1p

Don't cheap out on a PSU. Cheap PSU + high end parts = PSU blows = might take out $1000 worth of parts with it.

You should be fine, as long as you have the 6pin pcie power. The 450w should be ok.

IIRC, the Raidmax PSU's have really low 12V rails. Which isn't a good thing, even with 450W.

Well depending on which one he has, theres one with 26amps and one with 14amps (and another one that won't load full specs on raidmax's website). Although both are single lines, should be fine with the 26amps. The 14amps would probably fluctuate a lot if under a lot of stress, check which one you have~ there will be a sticker on the side of the PSU listing the voltage and amps. If its more than 1 12v line add the amps and if they equal more than 30 you'll be good, single 12v line you'd want atleast 20amps(although suggest more than 30 but those are hard to come by an I don't see any listed on raidmax's site.)

How would I go about finding amperage? And if this won't handle them, what would you reccomend? A Sunbeam NUUO like everyone seems to have or want?

You dont need anything really expensive. Its just that its really a bad idea to skimp on a PSU.

Just look on the sticker on your PSU and look under 12V; or if its a dual railed version, 12V1 and 12V2 and add them together.

Something like this would be fine:

The sticker on the side of the PSU will list the voltage/amps. Most PSU's on newegg list the 12v line's and amps. You'd be best going with atleast 2 12v lines with 15amps each or more. Find a few and compare, post a list of them and I'm sure people with the same brand can either suggest it or tell you it was crap.

Although that has no pcie 6pin connector(could use it with a 2pheripheral to pcie adapter but then you'd be down to 4 for other things), try something like this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817182043

It's even sli ready, not too much more expensive.

Well my thoughts were one of these. If I have to upgrade, I might as well go for something considerably better than my current PSU, right? Right:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817148023
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817194003
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817128002
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817121012
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341001
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817709003

All of these are SLI compatable, which means I can use them on a future AM2 or Conroe build when the time comes. The only thing now is the Amperage, plus brand reliability and price. Please help me choose the best "bang for buck" PSU from this list, or a better one that is a decent step up from my current one.
