Default Blew my Antec true power 550!

So here it goes.

I bought it from someone on this site but he lives in the US

And i thought, yea why not, i will just change the plug, because the adapters and amperage tolerance are much larger in the UK.

And me....being impatient, i kinda decided to use my uk plug from my old psu. Which i thought would work because it is the same principle. Right?

And the damn thing blew, or atleast i think it did. It smoked anyways, and tripped my electrics, luckily my pc still works, but havent tried the psu again yet. Looks like im buying another one!

But i dont get why it didnt work, i mean it would be exactly the same if i had changed the plug on the US plug. Maybe US psu are not compatible with the UK sockets.

Can anyone shed any light on the situation.

Thanks, Iced

My Antec SmartPower 2.0 400w is going bad, everytime I lose power i have to open my pc case and plug and unplug the 24 pin connector and hold the power button till it turns on lol. I tested my pc with 300w antec and it turned right on.

The best thing to do is buy a new one...

Did you select the right voltage on the back? Or do you not have to?

yeah, UK is 230 or 240 depending on who you are

you killed it by having it set to 115, it recieved double voltage than expected
its most likley DEAD, and unrevivable
its possible that it might still work, try it with a crap PC

ROTFLMAO, u didn't tur....n...errr.theee switch???? That's the power regulator thing. In the US if i turn it to 240 or somethign then it won't work because we only have 110, unless it's an industrial power plug. But anyways....240 is for the people on the other side. So u didn....t, well I wish u luck on the next one then. Just make sure u do switch to 240.

As mentioned above, yes, thats the voltage selector. In the US it is 110v i think and in UK around 230v , that will account for the destruction of it . just be careful in the future m8 .

a lesson hard learned...

i just hope everyone can cope with the death of this fine PSU,
it served its previous user well, and had good intentions for IcedEarth,
it was strong at 550watts, and was capable of pushing highly overclocked systems.
We will all miss you, antec...
*sniff*

lol someone go play taps
