The end is nigh.....
|
Hi guys, i just blew my antec truepower 550
so until i can afford a new one, i have to use my xpro but it says its amd k8 compatible, yet my a8n sli mobo is 24 pin, and my psu is only 20 pin. I dont get how it can be compatible when it is only 20pin, is there any danger in trying to see if it will work, or should i just wait a couple of weeks before i build my system?

Iv seen people use 20-pin PSU on 24-pin motherboards and they most of them work fine. No OCing or anything for you so hurry and get that new PSU

Get it RMAed, I believe they have a very good warranty!

I used a 20 pin PSU on a 24 pin board for a while with no adapter and no problems.

Just get the adapter. It can't hurt anything, but should give you a little piece of mind. Saying that, I had a MSI K8N Neo4-F and ran a 20-pin cable on it for a long time o/c'd to 2.6Ghz and 1.7v. That board did eventually die, though, so I would recommend getting the propper PSU or at least an adapter.

You will have warranty with that PSU mate with the actual company so i would give them a call and arrange an RMA. As for a 24 pin motherboard to 20 or vice versa sorry you can get the converters as linked above.
