Default 24 pin connector on motherboards, not many PSUs for it.

I am still trying to figure this out.

I just purchased this mobo
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...=MBM-KU8-3300A

The problem is, the 350W psu that cam with my case only has a 20 pin connector. Will be running an x700 AGP card with the Athlon 3300.

There are no PCI-e slots, no SLI, so why is there a 24 pin connector and can I still use a 20 pin psu with or without an adapter?

It is up to the Motherboard manufacture on the 20/24 pin.

As far as i can tell, any new/quality power supply has a 24 Pin output.

And i bet that wimpy case power supply wouldn't last a week anyways with that X800.

Newer motherboards will have the 24 pin connector. Since you probably have an older model psu then it has the 20 pin connector. I had the same thing but my psu had an extra 4 pin connector that I could attach to the motherboard. Do you see if you have anything like that on your motherboard? If you do then you might not need an adapter.

24 pin for stability for sure. Some MBs wont even post with a 20.
That MB also has the square 4 pin power moldex, so getting a 20 to 24 pin would leave you with out the 4 pin square connection
Sorry, I'd recommend a true 24 pin PS.

That's what I wasn't sure about. I read in a few other forums that if you use the 4 pin connector, you can "get away" with using the 20 pin psu.

How true is this?

Ha Ha on my typo

Anyway, most MBs that have both a 24 pin and a square 4 pin require both. Try it and it may work fine, you won't hurt anything. But if your unstable whether you OC or not, you'll know why.

You could try and be lucky... but likely you'll encounter instability. Not to mention the fact that your PSU is weak as !@#$%. I bet the 12V rails on that thing is like 14A or so.

Do yourself a favor and dig up $60 (including shipping) for this:

Ok, I found this one

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817170010

Would you recommend it? 25 amps seems plenty enough...

And what does 12v (P4) mean? Pentium 4? It's an AMD :-\

Never.

The PSU is one of the most important parts of a computer. The FSP I listed is the bare minimum I would ever recommend.

Err.. I assume this is for a second rig, since I see an Antec Truepower in your system specs?
