Default PSU fan dead
I was installing games on my sons computer the other night when it all of a sudden rebooted. I noticed a funny smell and put my hand on the tower. I was very hot to the touch. So I investigated and fpund that the psu fan had died. I took a case fan (80 mm) and put it in there. This shouldnt cause any problems should it? I wasnt worried about any warranties or anything because psu is over 4 years old.

as long as it reaches the interals of the PSU then its all good.

Well the warranty is now voided but would have ran out anyway mate. Aslong as its getting cooler you are ok.

You should just get a new PSU (to stay safe). There are 450W ones for $20.
