Were the "screws" touching the motherboard, When you turned on the power? And did you make sure the gold grounding pin was touching motherboard?
__________________If not you have probably fried the motherboard through short circuiting it on the casing. ALWAYS make sure your grounding pin / rubber caps are on the motherboard before turning on PSU. Sorry for bad news but I think its fried ![]()

Before you decide your MB is bad, check your cable connections.
Your cable needs are For power: 20/24 pin 4 pin ATX Video Card Power? Hard drive For signal and control: Start button For Data: IDE to Hard Drive Make sure it is plugged in to the wall and PSU, and that the switch is turned on. does the light on your motherboard like up? you know the green led that shows power to your motherboard?
i had trouble my first time too and turned out that i didnt have the power/reset/led buttons connected to the motherboard correctly and i dont think you'll fry your motherboard if its being shorted on the case im pretty sure it just wont work until you fix the short because my friend has done it plenty of times so like said before make sure you have all your spacers and risers screwed in

If the motherboard shorted, the PSU would turn on for half a second, and then turn off, it sounds like the ATX power switch isn't connected in the right place. Look at your motherboards manual for instructions.

**** IDK if this has anything to do with the problem but..
__________________I tried to load windows onto the HDD I am using for this build so i stuck the HDD and the RAM (i had 2, 1 gig sticks for the build and only 512 the compy in my sig so i wanted to try it out) So I pop that all into the compy in my sig the memory checks out fine but the hard drive wont spin so its not recognized all the cables and what not are correct, interestingly tho when i took the SATA cable out and put it back in while the comp was still on the HDD would spin I wasnt getting anywhere so i stuck my old HDD back in to just get things to boot and go from there but i got an error message right after the loading windows screen and the error said unsuccesful operation (or somehting to that effect) and then turned off by itself and it did this a couple of times EDIT: well ubuntu revealed that it was because I was above 62 degrees so it automatically shutoff but there was no way it was that hot....

it happened to me before and it is not a problem with the power supply, if the motherboard light doesent even turn on then change your power supply and it'll work i guarantee it BUT if the motherboard light turns on then send you mother back to the manufacturer because it's just your motherboard. Trust me, both have happened to me.
