ultra x connects have been known to blow up and fry computers... just thought I should warn you. Lots of people use them, and many have never had a problem, but overall I've heard of many, many more ultra's blowing up than any other psu

I fried two x-connects. I replaced them with the x2-connect. I called up Ultra and all I had to do was pay the difference in price. It was funny too both of them went the same week.

I have no problem with my X2 Connect but I dont know that I would buy another X-Connect. The X2 is better. Maybe I had too much power draw for the X-Connect.

Maybe I just got two bad units. Its odd that both of them went so close together like that. They were the X-Connect with the UV lights and the windows. I had a regular X-Connect with out the UV and it lasted for ever.

I dont know what else to tell you.

Only the older models were known too blow up, most likely the one you are buying isnt an older model.

I got 1 myself, but I got it for FREE after MIR @ Fry's though It runs pretty damn good, but the Cables are bulky and they dont to be flexible enough to back the Cables go Over and Under each other. Also, you gotta have a Big Case because Medium Cases like the 1 I own myself, Good Luck trying to Plug everything in.
The Only Con: The 1 and only Con is that my SATA power cable that came with my PSU tends to be loose when connecting into the HDD. But I got it working though. And I doubt that is a Con.
Bottom Line: Its a DAMN good PSU.

I've had the worst experience with Ultra. I've gone through 3 Ultra power supplies. The Ultra 500 Watt Modular PSU to be exact. This PSU has to draw 710W to produce 500W, and exploded after five minutes at 100% load) How efficient is that really? I'm pretty sure the one ones to blow or melt anymore but it stil needs to draw 710 watts to produce 500watt which is horrible. Actualyl calling it horrible is an understatement. Just please do yourself a favor and stay away from Ultra. =)

here's a power supply review posted awhile back
http://www.overclock.net/power-suppl...=Ultra+connect

"I got the Ultra X connect 500 watt psu when it first came out. I read a couple reviews which got good ratings. Since it was the first modular psu i wanted to try it out. It was running good for about 6-7 months then my pc started restarting frequently. I expected that it was something to do with the power supply. The next day i could smell plastic burning. I carefully checked out my pc and then found out that my power supply melted. The ATX modular socket on the power supply and the cord melted. Angry and fustrated i called Ultra and they RMAed the power supply. I got a the same one again. After a couple months it happend again!. This time i know exactly what was going on. My pc started rebooting and freezing. Checked my cpu tems and everything else that could be the problem. Then of course the Power supply was the culprit. I checked my 12V rails and the idle it was so low around 10.88V in the bios. So i took my power supply out and found that my atx cord and modular socket melted again!!!!. But it wasn't as worse as the first time.. I've read so many bad things about this power supply in the past but i had faith in Ultra. But after reading like 100+ people who had failures with this psu i started to face reality. I also read the PSU round up article in this forum."

I\Well, I just ordered one from perfromance-pcs on their summer savings, $19.95 after instant savings and mail-in rebate. Doubt I wil have any issues with it though, it's going to power my ancient P4 1.8Ghz system I put together just for folding.

If it explodes I'll let everyone know though
