Morning all. I didn't know where to put this issue so I'll try here. I am looking into a U.P.S. since we have a lot of "rolling black-outs". The U.P.S. configurator at APS doesn't look right. It recommended a 435W back-up unit.
I am running a X24600+, Dual 7900Gt video cards, raid 0 array, 4 fans, 19" LCD, and a 650W PSU. Can anyone give me a realistic number to give me at least 5 minutes run time so I can turn of the computer??

We've got an APC unit running a laptop, Dell Poweredge SC430, multifunction printer, an LCD, and a CRT, and it can keep them running for about 7 minutes untill someone can get it all shutdown.

Get a 800W APC 1100va unit. They sell for about 125$. You will get at least 5 minutes...more like 30.

I use a CyberPower 1500AVR battery backup. I have my computer, two flatpanel monitors, speakers, modem, and router plugged into it. It provides me approximately one hour of uptime. It also provides active line conditioning, not by nature as most backups provide, but by intentional electronics. You can get one of your own for around 250 bucks. Pay attention to the model number. There is one that is very similar by number and is completely different...lower specs and what-not. You can buy additional hot-swap batteries as well for this unit. This is practically the most powerful battery backup you can buy that uses a standard power plug...anything beyond will usually need a dedicated power plug or the type of plug a major appliance would use IE: Oven, Dryer Machine, etc etc. Professional class equipment. Be warned though, if you have physical problems and cannot lift over a certain weight, this unit weighs around 50 pounds.
Features & Benefits • Battery Run-times from 65 to 135 minutes • Innovative Design Allows Rack-mount or Stand-up Usage • Automatic Voltage Regulation Controls over-voltages, blackouts and brownouts • All outlets are surge-protected at 1800 joules • PowerPanel Plus™ Software saves your open files and automatically shuts down your computer when power is lost • $500,000 Connected Equipment Warranty • Contains Hot-swappable Battery Pack with four 7AH Batteries for Extended Run-Times. ![]() http://www.cyberpowersystems.com/CPS1500AVR.asp

Hey guys,
__________________I mentioned this in an earlier thread. When my battery died in my 650 watt APC UPS, instead of replacing the standard battery (7 amp/hour?) I just extended the power wires from the original battery out far enough to hook up to an external battery. I got a 1000amp/hour deep cycle battery (yeah, it cost some money) for this hook up and just set on the rear of my computer desk. I hooked up a voltmeter to it and then pulled the plug on my UPS (everything on my system is connected to the UPS). I ran it off the battery for several HOURS until the voltmeter dropped nearly a volt (11.88). I then plugged in the UPS, and my battery was fully charged in about a half an hour. I have not had issues with power interruption since, and hopefully a thunderstorm won`t spike past the UPS and spike protection I already have.
