I am hoping a real smart cookie can AT LEAST shed some light on this!
__________________I have had problems with my PC shutting down (which is a kicka$$ machine!), ONLY when running HDTV (Winfast DTV-1000 USB Dongle) The longest I can watch it for is ~ 2 hours, sometimes I dont even get 5 minutes before a shutdown. It does not matter if my PC is overclocked, nor (as far as I know) does tweaking the BIOS have much of an effect. I have a P5WD2-E Premium motherboard. The PSU I have is an Atrix 500w (600w peak). I have an X1900XT and run dual LCD's (both output via DVI->Analogue converter) I just installed ATI Tool (which was long overdue) and noticed the Amperage, which is normally 5.5A, occasionally jumps to 8.2A! But only when running the HDTV. I am assuming that this (or possible 8.2A+) could be the reason for my shut downs, and also not very good for my video card. I cant understand the voltage all going through the video card though, it's not like i'm processing any 3D - this thing likes to use about 20-40% of one core, I can overclock this thing fine, and run plenty of extra voltage through the GPU (I do get shutdowns if I take it too far) Any suggestions? Could we confirm the PSU is the culprit, it cost me AU$100, so ~US$70 The other theory is the voltage in the GPU is somehow telling the motherboard to just shut down as a safety measure, which is fair enough, the things worth a mint, ![]()

Have you tried defragging? Try with either the Windows defragger or you can use diskeeper defragger.

***...sorry man....did you even read my question?
__________________PS - my PC takes about 3 seconds to shut down, if I ask it to.. Im watching TV one second, and my PC switches off, then on again straight away. I run 3x250GB WD 7200 RPM RAID-0 Drives so I get ~ 187MB/ Sec throughput with my HDD Array, so I doubt it's an issue there O&O Defrag is set to perform regular maintenance of my drives, Anywho I'm more interested in the voltage issue and why I see the video card take 8.2A with HDTV on.. I will plug the HDTV card in (I have it's PCI equivalent here) and see if I get the same, however ideally I'd like to know why ![]()

Okay so like did you just build/buy and its always been this way or did it just all of a sudden start acting up? Looks like maybe youre PC is unstable and is shutting down due to the fact that your voltages are swinging out of range. If it started to act up right after you installed the new driver try uninstalling it. See if any changes occur. Try running your HDTV program with just a Single monitor also.
