Default 800 watt+ PSU recommendations?

Im looking for a very powerful PSU to replace the one i have now. . . i used the calculator and got it around 800 watts using the specs i intend on having (less overclock and i used 2x7900's instead of 2xDX10 cards). Size really doesnt matter as im putting it in a big azz case. . . but i would like to keep it under or around 300.

Thanks for the help.

The Tagan TG900-U95 900 Watt ActivePFC should be around below $300. But maybe there is something better for that price, not sure.

Your sig rig? Don't trust the calculators too much. You really don't need 800W.

My best bet would be the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750W for $199.99, which has a single 12V rail of 60A. That should be more than enough.

Again, I run my rig of an FSP Epsilon 700W, and mine seems to draw more power than yours.

And if you include two high-end DX10 cards.... there simply is NO PSU right now (including the 1KW units) that can handle a pair of 250W GPUs are the moment. The pair would require 500W, all on the 12V rail. That's 42A on the 12V rail, and even the PC Power & Cooling 1KW Unit does NOT deliver that on the rail dedicated to graphics (which is 36A)

The best solution is the 750W, single rail PSU, and simply add a second PSU, also single rail with about 25A or so, for the second video card./

This all assuming the DX10 cards actually draw from the PSU. I've heard things about exterrnal power and so on.

Hey Choz, how do you know that 500W of power drawn is gonna be 42A? I am not saying your wrong, I am just courios as to know how you calculated it

PC power cooling 750w will be more than enough power! Even a FSP/gamextreme 700w will supply plenty of power.

this is the power supply i have and its been great for about a year now and it works without any fluctuation on any rails, very good for the price imo

GPU power is all from the 12V rails.

Since Watt = Volt x Amperes, and we know Watt and Volt, we can easily calculate the Amperes. Outcome: 41.666666, rounded to 42A

Looking nice. 700W, 56A.. Nearly same specs as the FSP Epsilon/OCZ GameXStream.

Now, personally I don't like modular, but that's a matter of preference.

My first pick is still the PC Power & Cooling, also because of the fact it has a single rail (which is beneficial with those DX10 monters on the horizon. The power draw of those cards exceed the specs of most (if not all) rails on multiple rail PSUs)
