Question My PC cold reboots randomly

PC cold reboots randomly

I'm using my PC, and suddenly the screen turns black, the system cold reboots!
This happens several times in a day.

possible causes:
1, Spyware. I got a lot of spywares. But can spyware make a PC simply reboot?
2, a damaged hard drive.
3, mainboard is so hot that it reboots the system as a protection measure.
4, didn't have this problem when Automatic Update/Firewall/Virus Protection were off in Security Center. To be specific, recently my firewall and auto-update were turned on and AntiVirus was updated. Then the problem came.
5, something is randomly pushing my cold restart button from the inside.
6, Power supply failures. My power is supplying 3 IDE devices at the same time.
7, other causes. will need to use system restore. if that fails, reinstall and this time I'll make use of a Ghost clone.

1. With the System Restore disabled , reboot and do your scans in Safe Mode.
2. Check your PS for stability
3. Try bypassing your case's ON/OFF switch... unplug it from the MB and tap the 2 pins with the tip if a screwdriver to start up the system. If it stops rebooting the switch is defective. I've seen a few defective switches and some which have an isssue with the palstic case button sticking in the case.

Do you by chance have a usb modem for internet access?

I had the same problem up until a few months ago due to having usb modem with dodgy drivers. After telling windows to produce the BSOD before re-booting it told me the error was USB.SYS, something or other, it would do this at least 10 times a day until i uninstalled the modem and reinstalled with newer updated drivers
