Default Will this PSU be enough?

OK, I am definitely going with a PC Power & Cooling PSU next time. Question is, will a Silencer 610W be enough for a Crossfire and quad-core rig some day down the road? Or would I need to get the 750W version? I really don't want to have to get another PSU for a long time if I spend this much on one.

Thanks,
pow3rtr1p

Its really about the amps on the 12v rail.

The PC P&c 610w will be enough to handle the rig.

I just got my 750 today and I love it, 60 amps on the 12 volt rail.

Down the road... If you talk about Crossfire DX10 cards, I don't think even the 750W version is up to that task (if rumors about 250W per card are true)

Those two cards alone with draw like 21A each, and the Kentsfield about 10A (at stock - a lot more when overclocked). Thus, that totals already 52A. Add come harddrives, the motherboard itself, Optical stuff, a soundcard maybe, and fans, and you'll easily hit the 60A max of the 750W unit

What could be a solution is getting the 610W version, which should be plenty for a single DX10 card and a Kentsfield rig, and then add this FSP Group (Fortron Source) BoosterX 3, 300W ($84.99) for the second video card.

If you don't plan DX10, then the 610W version is enough.

Well I'm sure I'll eventually get DX10 (just to play the DX10-only games, really) but probably not Crossfire it.

So the wattage isn't as important as 12V Rails? It has 49A 12V rail, which I assumed would be enough for most things, but apparently not?

How about Crossfire my current card, 1 optical drive, 2 HDDs, and an E6400?

As I said, if you don't plan DX10, the 610W version (49A) is enough.

My FSP delivers 50A and runs my rig effortlessly....

I just realized the 700W GameXStream puts out more Amps for cheaper... I'm going that route for sure

One amp difference

GameXStream 700W delivers 50A over 4 rails; PC Power & Cooling 49A on one rail. Given the single rail design, I'd pick the PC Power & Cooling (no issues in 'dividing' the load across the rails - but that's not a problem for your rig, but will get into play with DX10 cards)

Umm, 18 x 4 is 72... is it not that simple?

And how dare that mod change my thread title... but I guess he had good reason (I don't want to offend you)

The GXS doesn't have an independent 12v rail, it's shares it with the +3.3v and +5v
