Default 24pin 20+4pin?

wats the difference between a 24 pin connector and a 20+4 pin connector? some mobos says it needs a 24 pin connector but theres rarely any psu out there with 24pin, so can you use a 20+4pin on a 24 pin mobo? or vice versa?

24 pin = 24 pin
20+4 pin = 24 pin or 20 pin

24+4 pins work on all motherboards.

not true, if a mobo has a 24 pin connector, you need to put all 24 pins in

That's not quite true. On most 24 pin motherboards, 20 pins will work just fine.

So, I've got a new mobo with a 24 pin and a 4 pin connector and my PSU is 20+4. Do I need to just plug both the 20 and the 4 in the 24 pin connector or what? [yes I've read the mobo documentation, Biostar isn't too great on that...]
