Default what PSU for a crappy machine?

I just ordered my new system and now my current system breaks...

I turned on the computer this morning and PSU went crazy. It started crackling and sparks flying out the back and the fan is not turning. I turn it off and tried again and same things happen. So I was afraid to do it again as if it screws up components of the pc.

I guess i'll need a new psu, so what should I get? the one that failed is a 420w generic psu i bought for $20 lol should i just get another one of these? what would be something that can for sure at least last awhile (say min 2 years?)

Thanks

*EDIT* problem fixed

nevermind i fixed the problem. It turns out that the electric sparks were a figment of my imagination and crackling was caused by the fan. I opened the psu and lubed up the fan now it's all good.
